Two men have been charged in connection with a suitcase robbery where a substance thought to be pepper spray caused injuries at the UK's busiest airport.

Tyrone Richards, 31, and Anton Clarke-Butcher, 24, are accused of two counts of robbery and charges for administering a noxious substance, as confirmed by court officials.

The charges follow an probe of an assault at the parking structure at Terminal 3 on Sunday. Earlier that day, two women were robbed of their luggage stolen after getting out of a car park lift, according to law enforcement.

A young child was among those injured in the event. Several persons required hospital care and were subsequently released.

This event – described by police as was not part of a series and deemed non-terroristic – resulted in disruptions to rail services and the partial closure of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park for a short time.
