Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Wins Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Awards.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight season.
The 27-year-old won four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – including successfully defending the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth career Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Year of Consistency
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine finals, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the world number one, finishing 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.
In July, she became the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Statistics
Sabalenka concluded the competitive year with a 63-12 match record, and picked up a historic eleven million pounds in prize money.
She earned almost eighty percent of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "help bring women's tennis to a new level".
Other WTA Award Recipients
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking a extended hiatus following the arrival of her first child and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after starting the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and rising to world number 18.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after securing their second Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
