Squad Evaluations: England Victory Sealed by Harry Kane's Double in World Cup Qualifier
Throughout a dominant performance, the English national team secured another win against their opponents, featuring a number of players delivering notable displays during the match.
Starting XI
The goalkeeper Not a save to make in the first half before called into action from Arbër Hoxha’s curled attempt. A sliding tackle against an Albanian attacker demonstrated excellent anticipation. 6/10
The debutant Examined by Albania’s main danger in their forward. Started in a central role to begin with later drifted wider after Saka came on. Seven
The defender Moved forward when in possession, something he's known for previously. At times lacked urgency in possession with the tactic was shelved at half-time. 6/10
Dan Burn A nuisance at set pieces, typically, but may be another option for Stones in the backline rather than paired with him. A loose distribution later in the match nearly resulted in an opener for the visitors. 6/10
Nico O’Reilly A further confident display by the rising star after his initial appearance against Serbia. Saka failed to make full advantage of a clever backheel over the Albania defence. The left-back spot is his to lose already. 7/10
Adam Wharton His maiden beginning for his country. Slightly loose when playing out though his whipped set-pieces posed a danger. An effective tempo-setter available to the manager to call upon against teams who drop deep. Cautioned for a poorly timed challenge. Six
The midfielder Deliveries from dead balls and free kicks created chances. Had freedom to drift in left midfield but was in an offside position when the ball arrived in front of goal. Granted a deserved break around the 60-minute point. 6/10
The star midfielder Played in a high spot on the right and also did plenty of defensive duties. Demonstrated moments of class and dragged an attempt over. Substituted late on by Rogers, his competition, following a yellow card. Seven
Jarrod Bowen Had England’s top opening before halftime, his strike smartly stopped by the opposing goalkeeper. With a teammate hanging back, he had to provide width out wide yet his deliveries from wide areas varied in quality. Substituted late in the match. Six
Harry Kane The decisive figure netting 77th and 78th finishes at international level. His first a classic poacher’s finish and the second a superb finish with his head having drifted away away from the opposition. Now 32, he continues to improve with the national team stand a real opportunity next summer with him leading the line. Eight
The attacker Struggled to make an impact from the left. Was presented with a good opening following a pass by the midfielder but the keeper made the save. Rashford made much more of an impact in his place. 5
