Joseph Parker Faces Potential Disqualification Due to Positive Drugs Test

The New Zealand heavyweight produced a positive sample as part of a doping test administered on the day he fought in 11th-round loss versus British heavyweight Fabio Wardley.

The Fight Along with Its Implications

The British boxer together with Joseph Parker participated in an intense contest staged in the UK capital on 25 October to determine the next next in line for the WBO against reigning heavyweight king Ukrainian champion Usyk.

Parker had positioned himself as the primary candidate to meet Usyk following compiling an impressive six-fight winning streak, yet put his shot at the title on the line in London and experienced an 11th-round defeat.

Positive Test Along with Possible Outcomes

A routine test conducted on the boxer through Vada the day of the match returned positive and leaves Parker with a battle to prove his innocence.

Parker's promotional company issued a statement declaring: "The anti-doping body informed all relevant parties regarding Joseph Parker returned an adverse finding after an anti-doping test carried out on the 25th October. As the investigation continues, no further statements are forthcoming at this time."

Boxing Journey

The New Zealand boxer became heavyweight champion back in 2016 prior to he lost his WBO belt by unanimous decision versus Anthony Joshua in Wales in 2018.

Parker has been a frequent visitor in the UK from that point, fighting eight times altogether in Britain and transferring to the Irish capital for training camps with respected coach Andy Lee over the past few years.

Current Situation

Under the tutelage of Lee, the boxer overcame his 2022 loss versus Joe Joyce to chalk up a string of victories which put him as the top contender to face Usyk until he was defeated to the British fighter.

Following the boxer produced a failed test during the Wardley bout, reportedly for cocaine, an inquiry about the test outcome has been started.

  • The boxer returned an adverse finding for an illegal substance.
  • The screening was conducted through Vada on October 25th.
  • Joseph Parker could receive a possible suspension from the sport.
  • Queensberry released an announcement confirming the failed examination.
  • An investigation is now underway into the matter.
